I first became interested in making sculptures when I was 13 years old.
They are stoneware, which is a very durable, high temperature ceramic.
I chose stoneware as the material because it is durable yet aesthetically pleasing.
No, I use the “press mold” technique. The clay is actually pressed into the mold. The methods I use with the sculptures are time-consuming and pain-staking. They require a lot of detail. I believe that the end art work is worth the extra effort.
No, they are not mass produced. Most of my sculptures are created as “limited editions,” which means that only a certain number sculptures of any one design are made. I sign every piece with my artist’s signature, and each sculpture is numbered.
I begin a sculpture with an idea first in my head. I never have to do a sketch. I just dig in to the project and keep tunnel vision until complete.
2200 degrees Fahrenheit (progressively).
It’s strong characters that inspire me. I’m talking about John Wayne, Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, Presley, JFK, RONALD REAGAN, DONALD TRUMP, AND MOST OF ALL, JESUS!!!!!!
First of all, I would say to Dehype!!!! You can think big but you must also be logical. Never feel you have arrived; there is always room for more growth. Don’t rely on others to keep you going because most people are in their own little world. You have to believe in yourself and be very focused. Dream big, but never let your head swell. There is always someone better who is willing to compete with you. Have tunnel vision for goal and never forget to pray about it.
I live and work in Wenatchee, Washington. The natural beauty of Wenatchee and of the Pacific Northwest is very calming and appealing to me.
